"Identity is not something we wear, but something we carry within us."
My work explores the invisible forces that shape identity, memory, and the values we carry through life. I am interested in what remains within us as our surroundings change—the quiet connections between personal history, cultural memory, and the essence of who we are.
The female figure is central to my artistic practice, not simply as a portrait, but as a symbolic presence. She becomes a vessel for resilience, belonging, dignity, and continuity. Through her, I explore the inner narratives that define us: what we inherit, what we protect, and what we choose to carry forward.
Traditional textile patterns, embroidery, and handcrafted motifs form the foundation of my visual language. I do not use these elements as decoration. In my paintings, they merge with the body and become part of the figure itself. They suggest that identity is not something placed on the surface, but something held deeply within the body, memory, and spirit.
Living between the United States and Türkiye has reinforced my belief that art has the power to transcend borders, languages, and cultural differences. While every culture carries its own history and traditions, the emotions that connect us—empathy, dignity, compassion, hope, and the search for belonging—are universal. Through my work, I seek not to emphasize what separates us, but to reveal the shared human experiences that bring us closer together.
Rather than preserving tradition through nostalgia, I reinterpret inherited memory within a contemporary visual language. My paintings do not aim to document cultural history; they explore how memory, culture, and personal identity continue to live inside us, shaping the way we see ourselves and the world.
These ideas come together in my ongoing series, Silent Heritage, where each painting explores a different human value. Together, the works form a visual narrative about identity, memory, resilience, and the invisible inheritance that shapes us across generations.
Ultimately, my work asks what remains constant when everything around us changes. Each painting is an invitation to reflect on the unseen threads that connect generations, cultures, and lived experience.
For me, art is not about preserving the past. It is about revealing the enduring essence that continues to shape who we are.
